Padel, the sport that got me completely hooked
Posted on 27 October 2025 by Jonas Thiry
When I arrived in Bali in 2023, everything felt new. The lifestyle, the habits, even the language. I wanted to move, meet people and try new things.
While exploring around Canggu, I started noticing padel courts popping up everywhere. Out of curiosity, I booked a beginner group class without really knowing what to expect.
From the very first session I understood why this sport was becoming so popular. It’s fun, easy to learn, social and you improve quickly.
Padel, a social and addictive sport
Before I knew it I was hooked.
Padel is the perfect mix of competition and enjoyment. You move, laugh, learn to manage your emotions and especially in Bali, you share the court with people from all over the world.
That collective energy is what makes the game so unique.
Over time I realized this sport was teaching me more than I expected. It helps me develop qualities I use every day such as focus when the match gets tense, resilience when things aren’t going my way, teamwork because in padel you never play alone, and a mindset that pushes you to grow without comparing yourself to others.
Padel in Bali, a true success story
In just a few years padel has become one of the most popular sports in Bali. Courts are everywhere, especially around Canggu.
The vibe is relaxed, the clubs are modern and players come from all over the world. There are weekly tournaments, interclubs every few months, lessons and great coaches too.
It has become a meeting place for travelers, expats and locals alike.
My favorite clubs around Canggu
Here are the clubs where I play most often and that I recommend to anyone who wants to discover padel in Bali.
Bali Padel Academy
A large modern complex with several courts, professional coaches and a great community. Booking available through the Playtomic app.
Island Sports Club
Padel in a chill atmosphere surrounded by greenery in Cemagi. They host daily tournaments and have their own app for booking.
Bali Social Club
A premium padel club in Canggu. They organize mixed tournaments every week, perfect for couples who love to play together.
Jungle Padel
The very first padel club in Canggu. They have their own Jungle Padel app for bookings and host tournaments almost every day.
Padel, more than just a sport
A few months after starting in Bali I traveled to Thailand, on the island of Koh Phangan.
Once again I didn’t know anyone. Naturally I looked for a padel club nearby.
Within my first week I joined an Americano tournament. I met other players and within a few days I already had a small group of friends to play with again.
That’s when I realized padel is much more than a sport. It’s a way to connect with people wherever you are in the world.
Today it’s part of my balance. It helps me stay clear-headed, active and connected with people who share the same passion.
It has become a ritual, a way to take care of both body and mind while staying social.
In short, padel is now part of my life. And if you ever pass by and feel like playing a match, don’t hesitate to reach out.
